About Folia Tools

Folia Tools is 40 free PDF tools that run inside your web browser. Your files are never uploaded, because there is nowhere for them to be uploaded to.

Why the files stay on your device

Most online PDF sites work by receiving your document, processing it on their servers and sending it back. That means your contract, your medical letter or your tax return sits on someone else's computer, at least for a while.

We do it the other way round. When you open a tool, your browser downloads the program that does the work. Your file is read from your own disk into your own memory, processed there, and handed back as a download. It never crosses the internet. Close the tab and it is gone.

This is not a promise you have to take on trust: you can open your browser's network inspector while a tool runs and watch that no upload happens.

Where it comes from

The engine behind these tools is the same one inside Folia for Desktop, a PDF studio built for researchers. It was written to run entirely on your own machine, which is exactly what a browser needs — so putting it online meant removing a wrapper, not building something new.

How it is paid for

Ads on the page, and people who choose to buy Folia. Because your computer does the processing, serving a visitor costs us almost nothing, which is why nearly every tool can be genuinely free rather than free-until-you-hit-a-limit — no daily cap, no watermark, no sign-up. The two AI tools are the exception: a model that size cannot run in a browser, so it runs on our servers at a real cost per document, and those two need Folia Tools Pro.

Two things are not free, and we would rather say so plainly than bury it. Very large files can exceed what a browser tab can hold — those are better handled by the desktop app, which has no limit. And AI features run on our servers because the models are far too large to send to a browser; those come with a Folia subscription. If you never subscribe, nothing you do here is ever uploaded.

Who we are

Folia is a small independent software company. Advertising pays for this site, and we would rather say so plainly than imply otherwise two paragraphs after admitting it — but no advertiser ever sees your documents, because your documents never reach us either. There is nothing about them to sell, and we do not sell anything about them. If that is still one compromise too many, the desktop app has never carried an ad of any kind.
