Why these exist
A tool page has one job: take your file, do the thing, hand it back. It is the wrong place for fifteen hundred words about content streams and embedded fonts, so the explanations live here and the tool pages link across to them.
They are also the answer to the questions that arrive by email most often — why a compressed file barely shrank, why a black rectangle did not remove anything, why the converted Word document lost its tables. Each of those has a real mechanism behind it, and knowing the mechanism usually tells you what to do instead.
