How to reorder the pages of a PDF
Reordering changes the sequence of pages without touching their content.
- Open your PDF. Pages appear as thumbnails in their current order.
- Move pages around. Drag any page to a new position.
- Save the new order. Download a PDF with the pages in your chosen sequence.
Why the result says nine pages moved when you moved one
The count is not how many pages you picked up; it is how many ended up somewhere other than where they started. Take a ten-page document and bring page 9 to the front. Page 9 has moved, and so has every page that shifted down to make room, which is pages 1 to 8. Nine pages are now in a new position, and that is what you are told.
It reads oddly the first time, but it is the more useful number, because it says how much of the document actually changed. Nudge two pages past each other and the message says two, so nothing else was disturbed. If it says the order was already correct, every page is back where it began — which is exactly the answer you want after undoing a mistake by hand.
When the arrows are the wrong tool
Each arrow moves a page one place. That is fine for a page or two out of sequence and miserable for anything larger — reversing a 30-page document, or bringing page 28 to the front, is a great deal of clicking. For a big reshuffle it is faster to cut the document into pieces with Split PDF and put them back in the order you want with Merge PDF, which orders whole files rather than single pages.
Reordering only reorders. Pages that are upside down or sideways are a separate job for Rotate PDF, and any rotation a page already carries is kept as it moves, so a landscape scan stays landscape. Nothing is re-rendered — the pages are copied whole. What does not survive is the layer above them: the file is rebuilt as a new document, so it comes back with no outline, no title or author and no form definition. Worth knowing before you reorder something you had carefully bookmarked.
Questions
Will links and bookmarks still point to the right pages?
Page content moves intact. Internal links that referenced a page by position may point somewhere unexpected after a large reshuffle — worth a quick check on complex documents.
Can I drag the thumbnails to reorder them?
Not on this page. Each thumbnail carries an up and a down arrow, and each click moves that page one position. It is precise, but it is one step at a time, so a page with a long way to travel takes a click per position.
How do I reverse the page order of a PDF?
There is no reverse button. On a short document the arrows will do it. On a long one, split it into one file per page and merge the pieces back in the opposite order — far fewer actions than walking every page to the other end.
Does reordering re-compress the pages or lose any quality?
No. Pages are copied across whole, with their existing text, image data and annotations. A scanned page comes out as exactly the same picture it went in as; only its position in the document changes.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool on this site runs inside your browser, using the same engine as the Folia desktop app. Your file is read from your disk into your browser’s memory, processed there, and handed back as a download. It never crosses the internet, so there is nothing for us to store, leak or hand over.
Is there a file size limit?
We impose none. The only ceiling is your own device’s memory, which differs from one computer to another — so we read what your browser reports about this machine and show the resulting limit on the page. Light tools like merge and rotate handle far more than heavy ones like OCR, which must render every page. For anything larger, Folia for Desktop has no limit at all.
Is it really free? Do I need an account?
Yes, and no. Every tool is free and unlimited, with no watermark and no sign-up. Ads pay for the site, and your own computer does the work, which costs us nothing. Signing in with a paid Folia plan simply removes the ads.
