How a long document is cut up, and put back together
Your browser extracts the text page by page and packs it into sections of about 3,000 tokens — roughly 12,000 characters of English, and fewer of Korean, which the budget treats as denser per character. Cuts are made at blank lines where possible, then at sentence ends, and only as a last resort mid-sentence. One job is capped at 120 sections; a document longer than that is refused before anything is sent, and should go through Split PDF first.
Each section is summarised on its own, and those summaries are then folded together — in up to three rounds for a very long document — into the single summary you get back. A document short enough to fit one section skips the folding entirely, because charging for a second read of an already-short summary would be charging for nothing. Each request is metered as it returns, which is why the result line can tell you exactly how many credits the job spent.
When a free tool is the better answer
If what you want is the document's actual text rather than a precis — to keep in a notebook, or to paste into an assistant you already pay for — PDF to Markdown does that on your own machine, free, with nothing uploaded. If you want the whole document in another language, that is Translate PDF. And if the PDF is a scan, this tool stops before anything is sent: there is no text layer to read, so run OCR PDF first.
Two limits worth knowing before you start. A section that fails after others have succeeded does not throw the job away — a busy service is retried three times, and if it still fails you get the sections that finished, a note saying where it stopped, and a charge for those only. And a section can hit the model's output cap and stop mid-sentence; the result line says so plainly rather than handing you a summary that quietly trails off.
Questions
Why is this the only kind of tool that needs an account?
Every other tool runs on your own computer, which costs us nothing. AI models are far too large to send to a browser and cost real money to run, so they stay on our servers — which means we have to know whose allowance to count against. Every account gets a monthly allowance at no charge, and Folia Tools Pro makes it much larger. Choosing this tool means choosing to upload the document’s text — we delete it as soon as the job is done, and if you never use these two tools nothing is ever uploaded.
Can the summary be in a different language from the document?
Yes. The summary language menu offers fifteen languages as well as 'same as the document', and the summary is written directly in the language you choose — one pass, not a summary followed by a translation.
What is the difference between Short, Detailed and Bullet points?
Only the writing. Short is one short paragraph carrying the main point. Detailed is prose covering each significant point in order. Bullet points is one line per point with no preamble. All three read the whole document — the setting changes the shape of the answer, not how much of the file is read.
Does it read tables and charts?
It reads the text the PDF contains, in reading order, so table cells arrive as lines of text and are summarised as such. A chart drawn as a picture contributes nothing but its caption, because no image is ever sent. Worth remembering with financial documents, where the number that matters is often inside the graphic.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
The file itself is not. This is one of only two tools on the site that send anything: your browser reads the PDF on your own machine, extracts the text, and sends that text — never the file, never its images — to Folia Cloud, because a model this size cannot run in a browser. It is processed, returned, and deleted when the job finishes. It is never stored and never used to train anything. The other 38 tools upload nothing at all.
Is there a file size limit?
Reading the PDF happens on your device, so that part is bounded by your own memory, and we show the number on the page. Beyond that a single job is capped at a few hundred pages of text so it cannot run away with your Cloud AI credits. Longer documents are best split first.
Is it really free? Do I need an account?
Not this one. This tool runs on Folia Cloud, which costs real money per document, so it needs a signed-in paid plan and spends Cloud AI credits from it. Every other tool on this site is free, unlimited and needs no account.
